This privacy policy describes how the Tab Order Checker Chrome extension (the “Extension”) handles information. The Extension is owned and maintained by a11ychecks.
1. Overview
Tab Order Checker is an accessibility tool that visually displays the keyboard tab order of focusable elements on a webpage. It is designed for developers, QA testers, and accessibility professionals who want to verify keyboard navigation and focus order.
2. Information We Collect
We do not collect any personal or non-personal information from users. The Extension does not:
- Log or store any data about you or your device
- Collect names, email addresses, or other identifiers
- Collect browsing history or visited URLs
- Collect form inputs, page content, or user interactions
- Use cookies, trackers, or analytics services
3. How the Extension Works
All functionality is executed locally in your browser. When you click the Tab Order Checker icon:
- The Extension examines the Document Object Model (DOM) of the currently active tab to find focusable elements, such as links, buttons, and form fields.
- It then overlays visual indicators (numbers and arrows) onto the page to represent the keyboard tab order.
- This analysis happens entirely in memory and is not transmitted, stored, or shared anywhere.
Once the tab order overlay is turned off or the tab is closed, the visualization is removed.
4. Permissions Used
The Extension uses the following Chrome permissions:
-
activeTab– Allows the Extension to run only on the tab you explicitly activate by clicking the extension icon. It does not access or modify background tabs or browser history. -
scripting– Allows the Extension to inject a small content script into the active tab to draw the tab order overlay and highlight focusable elements. This script operates only within your browser and does not communicate with any external server.
These permissions are the minimum necessary for the Extension to fulfill its single purpose of visualizing keyboard tab order.
5. Third-Party Services & Data Sharing
The Extension does not use third-party services, does not embed external scripts, and does not send any data to external APIs.
We do not sell, rent, or transfer any user information to third parties, and we do not use any information for advertising, profiling, or analytics.
6. Children’s Privacy
Because the Extension does not collect any data, it does not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13 or from any other age group. The Extension can be safely used in educational, governmental, and enterprise environments.
7. Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy is updated in the future, the revised version will be posted at: https://a11ychecks.com/tab-order-checker/privacy-policy . Your continued use of the Extension after any changes indicates your acceptance of the updated policy.
