Privacy at a glance: A11yChecks performs accessibility analysis on your device. It does not require an account, send scanned page content or browsing history to our servers, use analytics or advertising trackers, or sell personal information.
Scope
This policy explains how the A11yChecks Chrome extension and the a11ychecks.com website handle information. The extension helps users evaluate web pages for accessibility issues, run manual checks, inspect design properties, save local scan history, and export audit evidence.
Information the extension accesses
When you choose to scan or inspect a page, A11yChecks may access and process the following information locally in your browser:
- Website content: page structure, text, images, links, form controls, styles, accessibility attributes, and other page content needed to perform accessibility checks.
- Page information: the URL and title of a page you scan, together with the scan date, selected standard and scope.
- Audit information: scan results, manual-check states, audit notes, settings, and preferences you enter or select in the extension.
- Exported evidence: reports or screenshots only when you deliberately request an export or download.
A11yChecks does not access this information until you interact with the extension on a supported page.
How information is used
The information above is used only to provide the extension's accessibility features: running checks, displaying findings, highlighting affected elements, supporting manual review, remembering preferences, showing local scan history, and creating user-requested exports.
Local storage and retention
The extension stores settings, audit notes, manual-check states, and up to 25 recent scan summaries in Chrome's local extension storage on your device. This locally stored information remains until you clear it, remove it through the extension where that option is available, clear the extension's browser data, or uninstall A11yChecks.
Data transmission and sharing
A11yChecks does not transmit scanned website content, page URLs, page titles, scan results, notes, or local history to A11yChecks servers or third parties. We do not sell user data, use it for advertising, use it to determine creditworthiness, or transfer it for purposes unrelated to the extension's single purpose.
If you choose to open an external remediation or standards link, the destination website's own privacy policy applies. Files you export are saved through your browser and remain under your control.
Permissions
- Active tab, scripting, and website access: allow checks to run and findings to be highlighted on the page you select.
- Storage: saves preferences, notes, manual-check states, and recent scan summaries locally.
- Downloads: saves reports and screenshot evidence when you request an export.
- Side panel: displays the A11yChecks audit workspace beside the page being reviewed.
Remote code, analytics, and cookies
The extension does not execute remotely hosted code. Its accessibility testing library is packaged with the extension. The extension does not use analytics, advertising trackers, or cookies. The current a11ychecks.com website does not use analytics or advertising trackers.
Security
Keeping analysis and history on your device limits unnecessary data exposure. No method of local storage is completely risk-free, so protect access to your browser profile and device. Review exported files before sharing them because they may contain page details or notes you chose to include.
Your choices
You control when the extension scans a page, which manual tools you enable, what you write in notes, and whether you export a report or screenshot. You can clear scan history in A11yChecks, edit or remove saved notes, clear the extension's stored data in Chrome, or uninstall the extension at any time.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
A11yChecks' use of information received from Google APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the product or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top of this page will identify the latest revision.
